Why You Should Take Your Social Media Manager More Seriously

It's no secret; If you are a public-facing company or organization and don't have someone managing your social media presence, you are doing your company a grave disservice.

A social media manager leads an organization's social media strategy to boost visibility and customer and client engagement. But on any given day, a social media manager could be responsible for setting the strategy for an upcoming product launch, creating a video, analyzing data across platforms, designing viral GIFs, creating graphics, coordinating messaging with PR & Communications, running paid campaigns, and lots more.

For everyday people on social media, it's just another way of keeping up with friends and family members, a platform to express ourselves freely, and perhaps to connect with colleagues in hopes of exchanging ideas, learning trends in your industry, or simply looking for a new job. However we use it, it serves multiple purposes, and it serves us all very well.

Today, social media platforms are used broadly worldwide, not just for friends and family connections, but to enhance brand awareness for businesses and organizations worldwide, in real-time, every day. Unfortunately, social media specialists or managers are not utilized in a capacity that can catapult awareness in monumental and significant ways. They are often the last to know the goings on in an organization when it should be the opposite!

"Being an expert in the field, I’ve implemented social media strategies to foster audience engagement, follower growth, and brand awareness across social media platforms. Our expertise is valuable for helping brands to reach their goals," says KD Harris, a social media manager for a prominent media company. We're not saying social media is foolproof for increasing your bottom line. Still, it's a mighty resource tool that can--and should be--implemented in the strategic planning of company growth and targeted audience reach.

Having an expert manage your social presence is paramount to increasing visibility, mitigating crises, obtaining leads, engaging with customers and their needs, and growing traffic to your website. "Social media has helped me grow my business by expanding my audience and allowing me to share my passion for all things health and wellness, as well as creating a community and raising awareness for the importance of healthy eating through proper nutrition," explained Elise M. Harris, French-trained executive chef, certified sports nutrition specialist, body transformation trainer, and entrepreneur.

Whether you're an influencer promoting brands or a top-tier fortune 500 company, you need social media. And merely hiring someone to manage your social platforms is not enough. This person needs to be woven into the fabric of your company's corporate culture and strategic goals. And, while you're at it, give that social media manager a nice little bonus, trust me, they deserve it.
